Volunteer

One of the most powerful lessons learned over the years is that providing a home literally saves lives and improves health. Homeless people have a very high rate of mortality. The Healing Power of Home Volunteer Initiative connects volunteers who care with the most vulnerable members of our community who have suffered through homelessness. Until all of us have a home, no one is truly home and our city has not fully recovered.

Make a Difference, Save a Homeless Person’s Life by Volunteering:

At our warehouse:

• Sort donated household goods

• Inventory donated household goods

• Make bedding, kitchen and toiletry kits

• Promote UNITY’s household furnishings program

• Put your fix-it / handyman skills to work

At our offices:

• Engage in Fundraising work

• Support Special Events

• Identify and catalog available housing units

• Provide clerical assistance

• Assist with website and graphic design

At our housing sites:

• Lead a weekly art class

• Facilitate a fitness group

• Provide job skills training

• Build computer skills for residents

• Teach piano lessons

On call:

• Organize a donation drive

• Host a social gathering for formerly homeless clients

• Pick up and deliver donated household goods and furniture

(May involve heavy lifting; no driving necessary)
