Since the pandemic began in New Orleans, UNITY has spearheaded the efforts to move hundreds of homeless adults and children off the streets into hotel rooms and apartments to protect them from coronavirus.
This work is urgent because New Orleans and Jefferson Parish have one of the highest per-capita death rates in the nation. Homeless people, who tend to have chronic health conditions and cannot protect themselves on the street, are especially vulnerable.
