Make Ending Homelessness a Priority for Congress

Action Alert!  Homeless people need your help!

Dear Friends,

Please take a minute to send your elected officials a request to sign onto a “dear colleague” letter circulating in the House of Representatives, asking the subcommittee to include $3 billion for Homeless Assistance for fiscal year 2020.  The National Alliance to End Homelessness has made it very easy to do.  You can use the draft email function here and you will be sent to the form where you will enter your name, address, phone number and email address (the form picks your elected officials based on your zip code) then hit submit!

After submitting, please email me and let me know that you have sent the email.

Sincerely,

Message from National Alliance to End Homelessness

This week is your first chance to impact Congress’s funding for next year’s HUD homelessness programs.

A “dear colleague” letter is circulating in the House of Representatives, asking the leadership of the subcommittee that drafts spending bills to include $3 billion for Homeless Assistance for fiscal year 2020. This is a substantial increase. The more House members sign on to the letter, the more impact it will have when the subcommittee writes its bill later this year.

The Alliance is asking everyone who works on homelessness to contact your House members and ask them to sign on to the letter. This bipartisan letter is being circulated by Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) and Rep. John Katko (R-NY). It cites the effectiveness of the local programs funded by the Continuum of Care and ESG, and reinforces the severe challenge of homelessness across the country.

Every member of the House, Republican and Democrat, needs to hear how important these programs are in your community, and that they can help by contacting Rep. Moore’s or Rep. Katko’s office and asking to be included on this letter.

You can use the draft email function here, based on your address, to target your letter to the right House member. The letter from Rep. Moore and Rep. Katko is here. The letter to the Appropriations subcommittee leaders that House members should sign is here.

Sincerely,

Steve Berg
Vice President for Programs and Policy
